Music Classes: Ms. Shannon, one of our floating assistant teachers at Total Child, leads music classes for all students, where they explore songs, rhythm, and instruments, and learn about various musical styles.
Visits to the Mather: Our students visit The Mather, a senior living facility just a block from Total Child. During these visits, they create crafts, read, write, sing songs, and form intergenerational friendships with the residents.
Library Time: We’re fortunate to have a longstanding partnership with the Evanston Public Library. Once a month, the award-winning Mr. Brian delights our students with songs, stories, and books. He visits the 2- and 3-year-olds at our school, while our older students walk to the library for their session.
Ease Keys Social-Emotional Program: Ease Keys are self-regulation techniques for early learners that are taught using animals. These techniques are based on neuroscience, anatomy, and somatic (body) intelligence research. The program is designed as a two-generation approach to self-care, caring for the child and their caregiver at the same time.
Northwestern Theater: All classes at Total Child collaborate with Northwestern to explore theater for young children. Through sensory, interactive drama, students imagine, write, and act in performances. This experience culminates with a special performance at our all-school picnic in the spring.
Walking Field Trips: All classes at Total Child take walking field trips to explore nearby parks and community highlights such as the duck pond and the library.
