About

Total Child is a private play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired Childcare,  Preschool, and Kindergarten for ages 2-6.  Total Child opened in 1952 and provides local childcare in the Evanston community for working parents.  Total Child stands apart from other centers because we are a private preschool with extended daycare hours, open year-round from 7:30 am-5:30 pm Monday through Friday. As a pre-k with childcare hours, we provide high-quality early childhood education while also meeting the needs of busy families who require flexible, reliable care for their children. Our teachers are highly qualified with degrees in early childhood education and related fields, and they thoughtfully design curricula based on the children’s interests while integrating literacy, math, science, art, music, and social-emotional skills every day.

This year our extra enrichment activities include:

Northwestern Theater for the Very Young

Segel Design Institute

Ease Keys- Social Emotional Early Learning Pilot Program

Mr. Brian (Librarian) at Evanston Public Library

Total Child is proud of our commitment to welcoming all families into our program. Our classes represent the Evanston community through cultural, racial, economic, family structure, and religious diversity.

Mission

The mission of Total Child Preschool & Childcare Center, as a ministry of First United Methodist Church of Evanston, shall be to serve the greater community and support families by providing affordable, quality child care in an environment that reflects a commitment to embrace and respect economic, racial, cultural, and religious diversity as a positive value to be nurtured in our children, our community, and the world. The goal of the program is to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where the staff and Board of the program can work with parents to affirm and encourage children as they develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

Our Board of Directors

The Total Child Board is comprised of parent, staff, and church representatives and meets monthly. The Board sets policy, sets and monitors the school budget, plans parent education programs, oversees fundraising, and acts as a liaison between the church and the program.
