Jr. Kindergarten/Kindergarten Program

For children who turn 5 by December 31st

OR kindergarteners looking for a program with daycare hours and more individualized attention

Ready for Kindergarten…But Maybe Not Quite Yet?

Total Child’s Junior Kindergarten program provides older 4-year-olds (who turn 5 by December 31), as well as 5-year-olds who need a little extra time, an intentional year of growth, learning, independence, and confidence before kindergarten.

Junior Kindergarten may be right for your child if:

*They are socially or emotionally not quite ready for kindergarten
*They would benefit from another year of preschool
*They need more time to develop independence
*They’re academically curious but still developing foundational skills

OR: They turn 5 before December 31st and miss the September 1st cutoff for kindergarten

Whether you call it Transitional Kindergarten or TK, Junior Kindergarten or JK, or a capstone year, Total Child’s program offers a vibrant, well-rounded curriculum designed to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of young learners as they embark on their elementary school journey. Whether you want to delay kindergarten or enjoy the advantages of a small class for your 5- or older 4-year-old, our program is designed to move at the just-right developmental pace for your child.  If your child would benefit from delaying kindergarten or redshirting and having a capstone year of preschool, our program is designed to give them everything they need to be ready for kindergarten and beyond.  The gift of an extra year or bridge year means your five-year-old has a chance to be in the right class for them and gain a lifetime of confidence as a learner.

Looking for a Kindergarten with more Individualized Attention and Extended Hours?

Kindergarten at Total Child might be right for your child if:

*A smaller class size would benefit their social or emotional growth
*Full time year-round care from 7:30-5:30, including summer, would meet your family’s needs
*They would flourish with more opportunities to make choices, explore, and take on new responsibilities
*Moving at their own pace socially and academically with support would benefit them

Our program follows the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards for kindergarten in a play-based, child-led classroom.  Whether your child is already reading or just learning to identify letters and sounds, our small class allows us to individualize instruction for your child’s unique path.  All of the math skills in a traditional kindergarten are taught using engaging, hands-on, play-based methods and materials.  In addition, science, social studies, art, music, gross motor, fine motor, and social emotional skills are incorporated daily in a developmentally appropriate manner. The gift of a kindergarten year at Total Child means your child has the opportunity to enjoy childhood as it should be for an extra year.
