The mission of Total Child Preschool & Childcare Center is to provide quality, affordable early childhood education in an environment that reflects a commitment to embrace and respect economic, cultural, and religious diversity as a positive value to be nurtured in our children, our community, and our world. The goal of the program is to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where the staff and board of the center can work with parents to affirm and encourage children as they develop physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
At Total Child Preschool & Childcare Center our educational program reflects a number of core beliefs:
In addition, we strive to create an alliance between our families and the center in order to foster a consistent environment for children and to develop a sense of community.
The families at Total Child are all different shapes and sizes, and the children reflect a diversity of national, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition to Evanston, our children come from Chicago, Skokie, Glenview, Kenilworth, and Wilmette. Some of our children speak languages such as Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, French, and German in their homes. This makes for a rich learning environment where children are truly experiencing a microcosm of our world today.
We are a nonsectarian school located on the second floor of the First United Methodist Church of Evanston at 516 Church Street. Our facilities include:
Each room includes a cozy reading/quiet corner with well-stocked book shelves, a dramatic play space, an open art area, a housekeeping area, and writing and science areas. Children have access to a wide variety of sensory materials, blocks, and toys.
Our giant indoor playground provides physical and social development and includes swings, a climbing wall, a wooden play structure, as well as other equipment.
For outdoor play and exercise, we offer a large, private, fenced playground. The playground features swings, climbing equipment, a tricycle path, and a large sand area.
Our library is stocked with a collection of books, CDs, puzzles, toys, and other materials that are available for teachers to use in their classrooms.
